Synopsis: In the heart of the desolate and mysterious Iradi desert lies the enigmatic Wasteland, a place shrouded in legend and fear. The Wasteland is said to contain the Sanctuary, where one's deepest desires are granted, but it is protected by unseen forces that twist reality and confound intruders. The origins of the Wasteland are unknown, with some believing it to be a remnant of ancient Iradi magic, while others whisper of extraterrestrial origins.
Akylbek, a former soldier turned Guide, makes his living guiding those brave or desperate enough to seek the Sanctuary. Known for his survival skills and uncanny intuition, Akylbek has a deep, almost spiritual connection to the Wasteland, viewing it as a sacred place that tests the limits of human understanding and desire. His loyal horse, Zhalpak, is his constant companion, navigating the treacherous terrain and sensing danger where Akylbek cannot.
Two men hire Akylbek for a perilous journey into the Wasteland. One is Professor Kurmanbek, a disillusioned scientist hoping to unlock the Wasteland's secrets and achieve academic glory. The other is Writer Serik, who seeks inspiration and the rekindling of his fading creative spirit. Both men carry their own personal burdens and hidden motives.
As they traverse the treacherous and surreal landscape of the Wasteland, Zhalpak proves invaluable, guiding the group through shifting sands and treacherous paths. The journey is fraught with danger, as the Wasteland seems to react to their innermost thoughts and fears, creating physical manifestations of their inner turmoil.
Throughout their journey, Akylbek imparts his hard-earned wisdom about the Wasteland’s mysteries, stressing the importance of humility and respect for its power. Zhalpak's unwavering presence offers solace and support, symbolizing the bond between man and nature in this harsh environment. As they approach the Sanctuary, tensions rise, and the true nature of their desires and intentions come to light.
In a climactic moment at the threshold of the Sanctuary, each man must confront his own soul. Akylbek, steadfast in his role as a guide, refrains from entering, knowing that the Sanctuary’s gifts come at a profound cost. The Professor and the Writer face the ultimate test of their character and will, with Zhalpak standing as a silent witness to their trials.
"Guide of the Sands" is a contemplative and haunting exploration of human desire, faith, and the unknown, set against the stark and unforgiving beauty of the Iradi desert. The film delves into the complexities of the human psyche, posing profound questions about the nature of fulfillment and the price of one's deepest wishes.
